The Eganville Curling Club has been operating since 1951 but faces the challenge of aging infrastructure. Between maintenance and upkeep, not to mention hydro and heat, it takes a lot of money to run a curling club. Even our curling rocks were chipped and long in the tooth. Recognizing the opportunity to use an empty facility in the summer, the Escape Room is a significant fundraising activity for the club. With money raised in the first two years, the club recently purchased new curling rocks, a long overdue improvement to the game itself. This year, again keeping with the area’s rich history, we are taking local past history and again leaping into fiction.
Our theme is “Black Friday for the Avro Arrow”. On February 20th 1959 at 11:15am, Prime Minister Diefenbaker rose before the House of Commons and announced that the Avro Arrow was to be immediately terminated. Your trek through the Escape Room will highlight this historic moment in Canadian history. As a news team from the Ottawa Journal newspaper, you have been sent to visit a retired engineer from Avro that now lives near Round Lake. Your task is to get his thoughts on the cancellation of such a large project. But the interview you hoped for turns out to be something else completely!!
If your sense of adventure and curiosity has been aroused, we’d love to see your team step back in time to that fateful day, Black Friday for the Avro Arrow. You’ll need skill, powers of observation and team work to solve the mystery of the Arrow….
